[ARCHIVED] CCRCC CODERED emergency alert system now includes VoIP

Cumberland County, ME –

An update to the CODERED emergency alert system now includes the ability to notify citizens in Cumberland County who use Voice over Internet Providers, or VoIP, telephones. Those citizens who wish to receive the emergency alert notices through their VoIP systems will need to “opt in” their telephone information in order to receive alert notices.

The Cumberland County Regional Communications Center (CCRCC) began using the CODERED emergency Alert system about a month ago and reports that the system is working well.

“Staff members report that the system is easy to use and functions well,” said CCRCC Director Bill Holmes. “Last week, the CODERED system was used to alert area residents and businesses in Windham of a missing elderly woman. Within minutes after receiving the alert notice, a local bank called to report that the woman reported missing was inside the bank.”

Citizens can opt in their landlines, cellular and VOIP telephones by going to the Cumberland County website at and selecting the CODERED icon at the bottom of the page.
