[ARCHIVED] Cumberland County Government Launches Tobacco-Free Workplace Policy

On January 1, 2015 Cumberland County Government launched its Tobacco-Free Workplace Policy. The policy states that tobacco use will be prohibited within all Cumberland County buildings, satellite offices, adjacent sidewalks, parking areas, County vehicles, as well as within personal vehicles while parked on Cumberland County property.

Cumberland County worked with the Center for Tobacco Independence to provide employees educational opportunities on learning to get through the day tobacco free and the resources available to those trying to quit. In addition, several employees took part in a Tobacco Helper’s Certificate Course provided by the Center for Tobacco Independence.

“The entire process was truly a collaborative effort between all of our departments, the Center for Tobacco Independence, Portland Public Health and the State of Maine, with whom we share a home with at the County Courthouse,” said Joanna Aronica, Cumberland County Wellness Advisor. “As an organization, we know this is the right thing to do, both for our employees and for the public visiting our three campuses.”

For more information, or if you have any questions or comments regarding the Tobacco-Free Workplace Policy, please contact the Cumberland County Human Resource Department at 207-775-6809.
