WINDHAM -- The Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency is seeking attendance at a public outreach meeting to discuss the 2022 Cumberland County Hazard Mitigation Plan. The most recent draft of the plan is posted on the CCEMA website. As the public has the opportunity to view the draft, CCEMA would like feedback from county residents before finalizing the plan.
The purpose of the five-year Hazard Mitigation Plan is to have each municipality review its mitigation priorities (reducing the severity or seriousness of a hazard) and to identify areas for regional collaboration. This helps to speed recovery and redevelopment efforts, to qualify for additional grant funding in both the pre- and post-disaster environments, and to comply with federal and state requirements for local hazard mitigation plans.
Cumberland County has not experienced as many severe disasters as other parts of the country, but the region does face the potential for natural disasters to occur. The Hazard Mitigation Plan
addresses these natural hazards such as flooding, windstorms, etc. Other hazards, such as technological hazards (chemical release), human-caused hazards (terrorism), or public health emergencies (pandemics) are addressed in other plans.
The Hazard Mitigation Public Outreach Meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 from 6pm-7pm. The meeting will be held virtually on Zoom. If you would like to attend, fill out the registration form found here: https://forms.gle/5UfzaEuPTkesgPez6
Attendees will receive a confirmation email with the Zoom meeting link shortly after registration. All attendees will be entered to win a weather radio!
