Cumberland County is participating in a free discount prescription drug program sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo) that we hope will alleviate some of our residents’ financial burden.
For More Information
For questions about the program:
The program is administered by Caremark Rx Inc. and comes at no cost to county government or taxpayers.
The program has had success in Penobscot and Franklin counties. In Penobscot County last year, over 200 people used the cards each month, and saved a total of over $47,000. We expect to have similar success here in Cumberland County.
How It Works
The county makes the cards available to residents through town offices, non-profits, and any retail location that requests the cards.
Residents pick up cards as they would any other brochure, and then have the option to present the card when purchasing prescription drugs not covered by insurance.
The average savings is 20% off the retail price.
Caremark Inc. earns a small administrative fee each time a resident uses a card.
The tracking number on the card allows Caremark to report total savings. The county has no access to the name or personal information of those who take or use the cards.
How to Get a Card
Cards are located in Cumberland County municipal offices and in the County Courthouse. To obtain cards for your organization, contact the Cumberland County Executive Office at 207-871-8380.
